Port Experience Day in Regensburg
Winners of port quiz visit the port of Regensburg
On September 2nd, 33 happy winners from Munich who had the right combination at the slot machine on the open day at the Ministry, were invited to visit the port of Regensburg. The spent, guided by Branch Manager Dieter Berlinghof, an interesting day in Bavaria’s inland port with the biggest ship cargo handling: the port of Regensburg.
At the conference centre, the 26 adults and 7 children, got a first view of port work an activities. Joachim Zimmermann, Managing Director of the bayernhafen Gruppe, explained the importance of the bayernhafen Gruppe ports and their role for the local economy.
Afterwards the visitors started their tour through the port and had the possibility to have a look at the developments in cargo handling and sustained land use. The group visited a company doing steel processing. The manager explained how the steel billets which are called „coils“ are further processed, after arriving at the port by ship and train.
After lunch the group went to the excursion boat “REGENSBURG”. The extended boat trip took the Munich passengers to the Danube and the basin of the Osthafen which is located at about 3 kilometers downstream, nearly up to the famous Walhalla
On their way home to Munich the visitors finally had a short view at the terminal of the Rollenden Landstraße (rolling road). There were already some trucks waiting for the check in to the night train to Trento.
At 5.30 P.M. the group arrived at Munich after a eventful day and many new impressions of port handling.
